The Area

This is a fascinating and little-known area. The three local coastal ports, Collioure, Port-Vendres and Banyuls were used by the Phoenecians, Greeks and Romans. There are also many ancient remains, standing stones and burial sites, as well as hermitages and chapels built in medieval times and even earlier.   Historic sailing ships often visit Port Vendres in Summer.

Collioure, in particular, has many links to artists (Matisse, Derain, Picasso) and others like Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Aristide Maillol lived near here. The area still attracts many artists, photographers and writers.

On the coast there are plenty of opportunities for water sports; sailing and motor boating, snorkelling and scuba (there are many good local dive schools.) The water is clear and warm, with an extensive marine reserve, and even an underwater nature trail! Horse riding, bike hire and of course hiking are popular in the hills and the spectacular coastal path

The local sandy beaches are crowded in Summer but we know small coves and creeks where you can still avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful swim.

Catalan and Spanish culture dominate the area which was still part of Spain until 1659. You can buy fish fresh from the boats in Port Vendres, visit markets in the villages, and drink local Collioure and Banyuls wines - even take part in the grape harvest. The area was recently featured on UK television when Rick Stein explored the "secret" cafes and chefs of Port Vendres and the surrounding area. Local festivals continue throughout the year, with "sardane" dancing and musical instruments, fireworks and processions. We can let you know what is happening and where to go.

Some of our visitors have no idea that this is an off-grid stone house up a mountain and are disappointed it is not a seaside villa with a pool! PRICES 2025

Pricing is for the whole gite. We do not let rooms separately. We base our prices around 20€ per person per night, with a minimum charge of 150€ per night for groups  of up to 6 people, a little more for weekends and  public holidays and july/august. Sheets, towels, local taxes and  firewood is included in the price. Maximum group size is 10 people.  Minimum stay is two nights, except in the period 12July to 24 August when bookings are 5 nights minimum. Contact us for a quotation.

Once you confirm your booking we will ask for a 25% deposit and send a contract. The balance is paid on or before arrival.

We try to keep this availability calendar up to date as far as possible. Email us for the latest situation. Figures in red are already booked. Figures in bold are Saturdays.   Weekends and Summer weeks generally go very quickly.

PRIX 2025

Le prix est pour l'ensemble du gîte. Nous ne louons pas de chambres séparément. Nous basons nos prix autour de 20€ par personne et par nuit, avec un minimum de 150€ par nuit pour jusqu'à 6 personnes, un peu plus pour weekends jours fériées et juillet/août.  Les draps, les serviettes, les taxes locales et  bois de chauffage sont inclus dans le prix. La taille maximale du groupe est de 10 personnes.  Le séjour minimum est de deux nuits, sauf pendant la période du 12 juillet au 24 août où les réservations sont de 5 nuits. Une fois que vous aurez confirmé votre réservation, nous vous demanderons un acompte de 25 % et vous enverrons un contrat. Le solde est payé au plus tard à l'arrivée.8
