We have a booking! The prospect of real visitors staying in the house is exciting and rather daunting. Will everything be OK? Will it all work? A frantic two weeks of last minute finishing touches precedes the arrival of our first family.
We needn’t have worried – they loved it, or at least wrote some very enthusiastic comments in the visitors’ book and promised to return. One pleasing comment was from the children . The family had pre-booked a week in the resort of Rosas to follow their stay in Refuge Madeloc, and the children both wanted to stay on at the refuge rather than move on to the beach.

Good butterflies in July included clouded yellow. It was a good year for woodchat shrike, with several sightings including one right on top of Madeloc. Once August arrives, the first migrants start to make their way south. Booted eagle, short toed eagle, various martins and swallows, including red rumped, and over 100 bee-eaters on the 14th Aug.

The very wary Siamese cat that arrived in the winter (later christened Olivier) seems to have adopted us, and is beginning to come closer. He was in poor condition on arrival, but now looks much healthier. Like the other cat he will live outdoors all year.
