Refuge Madeloc is more widely known now, and increasingly there are groups of 6-10 walkers , bikers, and nature lovers rather than smaller groups of 2 or 3. We make the decision to focus more on larger groups. If we book the house for a couple for the weekend we lose a potential booking for 8 for a week. This change also makes our life a little more predictable and we do fewer meals as well, although the arrival of a group booking half board for 4 days keeps us busy. Visitors include another motorcycle group, who arrive at the Refuge from all over France. They insist they want to eat seafood which we source from the local fishmarket.
The Summer is hot, 0ver 35 degrees on some days. We have several repeat bookings which is very pleasing, including one Parisian family who stay for two weeks for the second year, and send us a copy of their home video of their week with their 6 children in Refuge Madeloc.
We are getting used to the natural cycle of wildlife at Refuge Madeloc, which has been well covered in this blog. Some highlights this Summer have included regular sightings of lesser kestrel, a woodcock in bad weather by the side of the track, and good views of an eagle owl at dusk (we hear them regularly but it is the first we have seen.)
