It’s a busy season with more groups using the refuge, mainly walking groups, either self catering or taking meals with us at the refuge, but also mountain bikers, nature lovers and just groups of friends looking for a few days of quiet relaxation. David developed his culinary skills and also took a further course to qualify as a walking guide. The refuge is increasingly popular, with many of our visitors having either visited before or passed by on a walking break. We develop our connections with children’s homes too, and groups of other young people. Once again we have the Merite Jeunesse (Duke of Edinburgh’s Award) groups from Luxembourg, taking four day expeditions from the house across the Spanish border. Four days without seeing a car, a shower or a toilet, and hardly any people either. It is amazing that there are so few people in the hills when the coast is packed with tourists.
Down on the coast the season is under way, with Catalan festivals and processions, music and dancing, elaborate meals and fireworks: while up at Madeloc all is calm and beauty.
